Dear %PERS_NAME%,
2008 has certainly started with a bang! The US continues to suffer the consequences of having easy credit for too long - and that has come to a sudden end as is the case with many economic cycles. But don't panic!
We believe 2008 will be a tough year, but foresee an improving second half and as usual continually search for opportunities. Winston Churchill put it this way: "The pessimist sees difficulty in every opportunity. The optimist sees the opportunity in every difficulty." We remain optimistic and convinced that we will look back and be thankful we never lost faith.
This month we have financial and other topics including a great article called How to Find Balance in a Busy World.
We hope our newsletter inspires you, and we look forward to working with you and your associates through many market cycles.
Kind regards,
Ted Rechtshaffen

Market Wisdom
By Bruce Campbell, President, Campbell and Lee Investment Management
January was a stomach churning month without a doubt. The Canadian stock market was down 13% at its worst and recovered to be down just under 5%. The S & P 500 was down 6.2%, the worst January since 1990. Nasdaq was down 9.9%, the worst start to a year ever. The US Federal Reserve made an emergency mid-meeting cut of .75% and did another .50% last week.
|
|
 |
These massive cuts soothed markets for now as it is apparent they are going to do what they can to prop up the economy. While earnings may decline for a quarter or two, a recessionary decline (i.e., 20-25%) is more unlikely now. Further monetary easing to sustain the expansion appears imminent although further cuts will not be at the same pace.

Today's smile
Bob was a single guy living at home with his father and working in the family business. When he found out he was going to inherit a fortune when his sickly father died. He decided he needed a wife with which to share his fortune. One evening at an investment meeting he spotted the most beautiful woman he had ever seen. Her natural beauty took his breath away. 'I may look like just an ordinary man,' he said to her, 'but in just a few years, my father will die and I'll inherit 20 million dollars.' Impressed, the woman obtained his business card and three days later, she became his stepmother...women are so much better at estate planning than men.
