Dear %PERS_NAME%,

Have you been thinking about investing in a guaranteed product? In this issue we show you how expensive those guarantees can be, along with two key financial planning ideas.

On the TriDelta front, we are very excited to announce our new Georgian Bay office headed by industry veteran Robin Randall. We are also very proud to have been nominated and selected as a finalist at the prestigious Oakville Awards for Business Excellence. The 'Oakville Awards for Business Excellence' is dedicated to recognizing exemplary models of excellence and community service by Oakville’s businesses.

As always, please feel free to call us if you are thinking about retirement and would like to get a clear picture of your retirement lifestyle as well as tax efficient income strategies. Have a great Summer.

TriDelta opens in Georgian Bay!!

After a career in Toronto as an investment professional working with a wide range of high net worth clients for over 30 years, Robin Randall wanted to work where he lived. That town is Creemore, Ontario, about 30 minutes from Collingwood. After several interactions with TriDelta Financial Partners and upon becoming a client himself, it was clear to him that there was a tremendous opportunity to add value to
his friends, neighbours and colleagues. As a result, Robin decided to join the company so that he could bring our unique Financial Planning services to Creemore and the surrounding areas. Robin can be reached by e-mail at robin@tridelta.ca or by phone at (705) 466-6404. Be sure and drop by our office before your tour of the famous Creemore brewery.
The Crazy Things People Do for a Guarantee and Some Cash Flow

Here is the offer that is being pitched to hundreds of Canadians every day:

  1. Give us a lump sum of money. Preferably at least $100,000, and lock it away long term.
  2. For the cost of roughly 3.5 to 4% a year in fees, we will guarantee to return your money in bite size chunks over 20 years. If you should pass away during this time, you will also get your money back.
  3. You have the possibility of making some additional money from the investment products, but keep in mind that the first 3.5% to 4% of earnings EVERY year is kept by us.
  4. Due to the ratcheting feature that is not easy to explain or understand, you may have the ability to lock in some additional gains beyond the principal (see number 3). There is some value in this, but because of the high fees, you will never be able to lock in as much growth as you should.

Two Quick Financial Tips

Tip One - Your RESP
If you have an RESP, you can now receive a Government Grant of $500 per year, per child under 18, when you put $2,500 into your RESP. This is an increase of $100 per child per year. The lifetime maximum grant is still $7200. To take advantage of this, make sure you are boosting your RESP contributions from $2,000 to $2,500 starting in 2007 for each child.

Tip Two - Your RRSP and RRIF
The pension income credit has recently been expanded to $2,000 per person aged 65 plus per year. This means that if you aren't receiving funds from a corporate pension, you should ensure that you are taking $2,000 a year from a RRIF from age 65 through age 71. With income splitting, if applicable, the older spouse can withdraw $4,000 a year and split it with their spouse, effectively withdrawing $4,000 a year from a RRIF tax free. If you are between the ages of 65 and 71, ask us for details about how to take advantage of the pension income credit.
