TriDelta Insight
March 2015
Dear reader,
Welcome to Spring 2015.

Our spring issue delivers a number of interesting items, which we hope you enjoy.

We revisit mortgages given the new multi-decade low rates, a few general articles on life, health, our movie and reading picks.

Of particular interest is the ability of 'non-accredited' investors to now participate in our relatively new pool fund, TriDelta High Income Balanced Fund.

Enjoy and be well,

TriDelta Financial

TriDelta High Income Balanced Fund
Today's investors face significant challenges, not least of which is generating sufficient income in the multi-decade low interest rate environment.

We launched the TriDelta High Income Balanced Fund in late 2013 and have since delivered significant returns to early investors. Our fund overview can be reviewed.

Opportunities to invest are restricted to 'accredited investors' currently, but the exciting news is that from May 5th 2015 regulations have been amended by the Ontario Security Regulators to all non-accredited investors to participate as well. This is however subject to it being an appropriate investment given the elevated risk profile. We will however review your situation carefully to determine this beforehand.

The Financial Post published this recent article about our fund:

TriDelta President makes 2015 Top 50 Financial Advisor List
TedLast month, 'Wealth Professional Canada' magazine named their Top 50 Financial Advisors.

We are pleased to report that Ted Rechtshaffen, President and CEO of TriDelta Financial, was on the list.

Here is what Ted had to say: "While it is a great honour to be included on the Top 50 list, it is really a recognition of TriDelta Financial, the team here and our approach to helping the client beyond just investments" said Ted. "As TriDelta Financial reaches its 10th Anniversary it is especially nice to be recognized for the industry leading work that we are doing on a daily basis."

Life Unfolding
BoatThe core of TriDelta Financial is about planning. We focus on customized financial planning, investment management, insurance and much more.

In our experience most people remain content to let their lives simply unfold, rather than reviewing things periodically. At TriDelta we have developed a simple, yet effective questionnaire to help you plan how you would like to live your life. In the simplest terms, our lives can be divided into five categories; financial, health, relationships, adventure and spiritual. While these are obviously interconnected, each one is distinct and should be considered separately.

We encourage you to access our questionnaire and have some fun comparing answers. Here is the link to our questionnaire.

Our experience is that spouses typically differ considerably. The challenge is then to craft a joint vision. Our advice is tackle each aspect one by one, remain flexible and realize your limitations.

Take relationships for example, most of us believe that we can change ourselves and or our spouses? Click here to read an interesting article that suggests otherwise.

If you're looking to take your life planning further and sync your finances to your vision, we can help by preparing a detailed financial plan.

The Dreaded belly Fat
In our attempt to bring you meaningful health tips that help us live a better life, we want to address something that's all too common these days, our middle age spread.

Most of us have at least a bit of a belly, especially at our age, but did you know that
belly fat
this increases your risk of high blood pressure, stroke and heart attack?

A low cost way to check how much visceral fat you have is to measure your own waist. Using a measuring tape, wrap it around your waist at your belly button, while standing up. For a women ideally you want your waist size to be less than 35", for a man you want it to be less than 40".

A conscious effort of increasing exercise, correct diet and other simple changes can make a big difference in your health and waist size.

Claire's Movie Review
And Now For Something Completely Different!

Given this title you can be forgiven for thinking that I will be talking about one of my favourite comedy troops, Monty Pythons. And while that is not correct it is also not too far removed from the truth as it is through a new cinematic
Cineplex
medium that I want to share with you, that I actually saw them perform (almost live) from London.

For many years my husband and I have loved nothing more than to experience the arts 'close up' and in 'real time', such as going to see plays, musicals and visiting art galleries.

We are fortunate that living close to Toronto we have the luxury of seeing award-winning shows, local theatre and can visit galleries such as the AGO (Art Gallery of Ontario) and the ROM (Royal Ontario Musueum). While that is a luxury, sometimes there are arts we would love to see that don't visit Toronto and so we have a choice to either go without or travel great distances to enjoy. And then along came a whole new concept to fill that gap, of showing live theatre from the stages of London and New York in our local cinemas.

Over the past couple of years I have seen locally National Theatre of London productions of The Queen, Peter Pan, The Bolshoi Ballet, Treasure Island and yes, I also saw Monthy Pythons Anniversary Show from London's O2 Stadium in a cinema in England. And while being there live would be preferable the next best thing has to be experiencing something that your senses make you believe that you are there. When you combine the incredible quality of the sound and video recording with the play back systems that exist in our modern movie theatres, you can be forgiven for believing you are actually sitting in the Old Vic or Lyric Theatre in London. How neat is that?

In addition to seeing stage productions I also recently saw 'Rembrandt - The Last Years'. This was a narrated guided tour of his masterpieces that hung at the Tate Gallery in London and then the Rijksmuseum art gallery in Amsterdam. Although I was a little unsure how this would work the documentary was truly amazing. I now feel privileged to have seen his masterpieces and learned about the painter and it was a mere 10 kms from my door.

So if I have wetted your appetite to try something completely different may I recommend that you visit the Cineplex web site, click on events and look at the performing arts listing to see what takes your fancy.

Let's Just Say It Wasn't Pretty
by Diane Keaton

Diane Keaton's autobiographical book is her latest novel about how a screen legend comes to terms with getting old in a world and in particular, a business, that pays little respect to those with signs of aging, especially in women. I found it to be a smart and funny account of the ups and downs of living and working in a world obsessed with beauty. Her story is told in her own unique style, which ironically is similar to her unique way of dressing with her wide brimmed hats and
Keaton
turtle neck sweaters. Like her clothes she is not afraid to make a statement about working in a culture that she sees as having an unhealthy impression of what is beautiful. Amongst the serious messages are enjoyable accounts of her experiences and moments with the famous men in her life.

Diane has a refreshing outlook which resonates with many of us who believe that a life well-lived and being true to who you are is maybe the most beautiful thing of all.
